Client overview
Eayrs and Son approached CLA Energy Services to review their options for managing costs on their half-hourly (HH) meter connections.
The challenge
Initial quotes for the site revealed exceptionally high standing charges due to the HH meter being a current transformer (CT) meter with an associated capacity. The client required a solution that could reduce these standing charges while ensuring their energy needs were still met.
Our solution
Through a detailed investigation, we identified an opportunity to change the meter type to a whole current non-HH meter. To enable this transition, we worked with the client to reduce the capacity to below 70 kVA, making the switch viable.
The steps we took included:
Capacity reduction: Adjusting the site’s capacity to align with its actual usage requirements.
Meter replacement: Facilitating the change from a CT HH meter to a whole current non-HH meter.
Standing charge optimisation: Reducing the standing charges tied to the new meter setup.
The impact
The changes implemented led to measurable cost improvements for the client:
Lower standing charges: A 63.6% reduction in standing charges compared to the initial quotations.
Right-sized capacity: The new capacity level aligns with the site’s actual requirements, avoiding unnecessary charges.
Improved cost structure: The site now benefits from a more efficient and cost-effective energy setup.
Client Feedback
“Our farm supply was a half hourly metering arrangement which was no longer needed for our use or capacity. Dealing with the supplier and their meter operators to obtain a meter downgrade to a normal meter has been a nightmare. Over the five months or more that this has taken, Gavin Galloway had led us through it with thorough and professional efficiency and courtesy. And patience! I cannot give more than 5 stars, but the service we have just received deserves it.” - Robert Eayrs
