Case study: Helping a dairy farm achieve sustainability and significant cost reductions

Client overview

A family dairy farm based in Cornwall, focused on sustainability and green energy compliance.

The challenge

In 2022, this dairy farm approached us during the height of the energy crisis. Market rates were high, and the client was struggling to secure a fair price for their energy needs. Additionally, they faced an ongoing issue with the removal of an outdated meter, which had proven difficult to resolve directly with their supplier.

Our solution

We stepped in to help secure a contract that, despite the challenging market conditions, was significantly better than the rates the client had been offered directly. Throughout the contract, we provided ongoing support with quarterly check-ins, ensuring clear communication and assisting with the meter removal issue.

Recently, we helped the client extend their contract, achieving a 49% reduction in costs compared to the previous term. We acted quickly, leveraging favourable market conditions while considering geopolitical risks that could impact energy rates. The new contract includes REGO certification, demonstrating the farm’s commitment to green energy and positioning them to align with sustainability-focused supply chain expectations.

The impact

  • 49% reduction in energy costs with the new contract extension.

  • Successful resolution of a problematic meter issue, improving site operations.

  • Positioned to potentially increase revenue through supply chain incentives tied to green energy compliance, supported by REGO certification.
